Bio
A dedicated composer and physicist, Siqi's creative career is driven by endless curiosity. Having studied piano and sung with China’s renowned Philharmonic Choir since childhood, Siqi embarked on her composition journey in high school, winning the AMIS Young Composer’s Competition in 2018. She has just graduated from University of Southern California (USC) with a dual degree in Physics and Composition, and is continuing to pursue a Master’s degree in Music, Science, and Technology at Stanford’s CCRMA (Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics).
Her compositions span a diverse range, from classical string quartets to experimental pieces using glasses of ice-water and synthesizers. Collaborating with filmmakers, choreographers, and game developers, Siqi made music for various visual forms, including award-winning film projects. Additionally, she is a proficient arranger for a cappella and popular bands, and has experience as a collaborative pianist and music tutor.
An alumna of the EAMA summer music institute in 2019 and 2020, Siqi enhanced her understanding of harmony and counterpoint under the guidance of Philip Lasser and continues to advance her studies in music theory. Moreover, she is actively engaged in research in Music Information Retrieval and AI Music, delving into combining the power of computers with her expertise in music theory and composition.
Concert Compositions
I. Celery Circus (for Solo Piano)
A friendly little piano piece with glissandi (using the back of your fingers to glide over the keys, not friendly for nails)
II. Evil Carrots (for Solo Piano)
Some pandiatonic hand torture that resembles the evilness of carrots
I. Chant (for Solo Tuba)
Uses an extended technique for Tuba called “Multiphonics”, where the player sings into the instrument while playing at the same time. Be ready to hear some some cool (haunted?) sounds!
II. Conversation at 3AM (for Solo Tuba)
Title is pretty self-explanatory :) Happens between me and my roommate a few times every week
